WVW VS. SCRANTON

 

With hundreds in attendance and a beautiful night for football, Spartans took to the field with one thing on their minds, a win over non-conference rival the Scranton Knights. Spartans received the ball on the opening kickoff. After several possessions and a blocked punt the Knights put up the first score with 2 minutes left in the first quarter. A two point conversion try by the knights was stopped leaving the score at 0-6 with less than two minutes to go in the first quarter. The Spartans answer right back on the next possession with a 16yd rushing TD and a good PAT putting the score at 7-6 to end the first quarter. 

 

Second Quarter was a defensive battle with the only score coming from the foot of Spartan senior Adam Sivak a 25yd Field Goal to close out the first half with a 10-6 score.

 

Second half underway and the Defensive battle continues. First score in the 3rdQuarter comes late off a Spartans fumble; putting the Scranton Knights up 10 – 13 and with that score the third quarter comes to a close. 

 

Fourth Quarter battle goes to the Spartans with a 15 yard pass completed for a TD and a 70 yard run for another touchdown to secure the win 24-13 Spartans!

Blocked 4th Quarter  PAT Puts another Win on the Board for the Spartans

The massive offensive output of junior running back Carson Canavan and a blocked PAT from Nah-Syr Garner helped put the Spartans at 2-0 on the Season. With 416 yards total offense it was hard keeping the Spartans from gaining another W.

 

With hundreds in attendance and Rainy/Wet conditions the First score came late in the first Quarter off a Carson Canavan Rushing TD. PAT Good making the score 7- 0 in favor of the Spartans. With 8 minutes to go in the Second Quarter Hazleton QB Kellen Warner answered back slinging a 45 yard TD pass. PAT good making it a tie game 7-7. On the very next possession Carson Canavan takes it in from 45 yards out to put the Spartans back on top.  PAT good 14 – 7 Spartans.  After a few more possessions and defensive stops the score would close at 14 – 7 entering halftime.

 

To Start the Second half Hazleton kicks off to Wyoming Valley West. The defensive battle continues through the 3rd quarter. With 4 minutes left on the clock in the 3rd Quarter Hazleton’s Damon Horton puts the ball in the End-zone; PAT good making it tied up at 14 – 14. Great Football and what a game to watch both defensively and offensively. It’s not until the 4th Quarter when Adam Sivak completes a 75 yard pas to Nate Baranski for a TD with a good PAT making it a 21 – 14 game. Next Possession Hazleton answers back with a TD run from Damon Horton, PAT is no good blocked by Spartan Nah-Syr Garner. Making the score 21 – 20 Spartans up by one. After 5 minutes of 4th Quarter defensive battles, The clock ticks off the last seconds of the game with the Spartans securing a 21 – 20 win over Hazleton. Wyoming Valley West heads home next Friday against the Crestwood Comets.

Spartans victorious against Comets to get to 3-0 on the Season

 

Weather started out beautiful and turned into some scattered showers but that did not put a hold on Wyoming Valley West securing a 21-20 victory over the Crestwood Comets.

Spartans drop First Loss of Season to Berwick Bulldogs

Berwick kicks off to the Spartans to start the game. After a sack and a punt Berwick gets the ball and strikes first with a 21 yard rushing TD an a good PAT making it 7- 0 with 9 minutes left in the first quarter. A defensive battle from both teams kept the score at  7-0 to end the first quarter. With 11 minutes to go in the second quarter Wyoming Valley west answers back with a 3 yd rushing TD and good PAT tying it up 7-7. Berwick answers back on there next possession with a score and PAT turning the score back in their favor 14-7. As the defensive battle ensues the Spartans get the ball back with  7 minutes to go in the second quarter and Spartans QB throws a 24 yd pass for TD changing the score again to 14-14. The Spartans next kickoff goes to Berwick as they return it for a TD, PAT blocked making the score 20-14. Spartans answer with a Field Goal 20-17 and Berwick responds with another drive for a TD setting the halftime score at 27-17. Spartans kickoff to the Bulldogs to start the second half, and from here on out the Bulldogs start a series of runs and defensive stops on the spartans making the score 40-17. With only 2 minutes to go in 4th quarter The spartans record a late 30 yd rushing TD and good PAT making this the final score of the game it ended 40-24 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Spartans now 3-2 on Season after Devastating loss to Dallas

Field conditions were dry and weather was fair for a fall friday night football game. Dallas started the game off right with 21 first-half points the first of those 21 coming off a 70 yard TD pass. Meanwhile, Wyoming Valley West couldn't get anything going offensively, leaving the score at 21-0 heading in at halftime. The Dallas defense stood its ground in the third quarter, giving up 0 and all but finishing the contest. The loss dropped Wyoming Valley West's record to 3-2.

Wyoming Valley West returns to Spartan stadium next friday to take on Wallenpaupack.

Spartans now 3-3 after dropping one to Wallenpaupack 34-28

The Spartans took home the W last time these two teams met 35-7. This time around? They had no such luck. The score was much closer as this time around is was Wallenpaupack on top 34-28. The game leaves both teams with the exact same record at 3-3.

Next week Wyoming Valley West take on James M. Coughlin at 7:00 PM. These teams both have had a rocky road up to this point with three consecutive losses for Wyoming Valley West and six for James M. Coughlin.

Spartans move into positive numbers 4-3 after 28-14 win over The Crusaders

Wyoming Valley West Spartans gain their 4 Win on the season over the Coughlin Crusaders 28-14. The win put them into positive win percentage at 4-3 on the year. 

The Spartans head to Clarks Summit next Saturday for a 1pm matchup vs The Abington Heights Comets.

Spartans drop 4th game of Season to Abington Heights

Abington Heights strikes first and finishes with a win over Wyoming Valley West Saturday afternoon. With the first half closing at 14 -14 and First downs looking almost identical this was sure to be a second half battle for the victory.  

A tough 3rd Quarter defensive battle took place with Abington Heights putting up the only score in the 3rd Quarter with 4:22 left.

Jake Shusta connected with Harunah Jallow for a 4th quarter TD with  6:06 left to play but for the spartans that would be their final score of the day giving the Abington Heights Comets a 35-21 Victory. Stats Listed Below

Spartans take to the Road for another away game at Delaware Valley next Friday night!

WVW falls to  Delaware Valley 

The Wyoming Valley West Spartans Squared off against the Delaware Valley Warriors in a tough away game Friday night. 

The Spartans fall to a 4-5 record but look towards next Friday's matchup against conference rival Williamsport; home at Spartan Stadium

Spartans Victorious over Williamsport in Final Game of Season

The Wyoming Valley West Spartans scored 46 points against conference rival Williamsport and held them defensively to 21points

The Spartans end there Season with a 5-5 Record.
